In 1991, MTV, still mostly showing music videos with little to no commercials, came out with Liquid Television, an animation showcase designed to produce alternative animated adventures for a more mature and edgy audience. The most well-known of these was Peter Chung's Aeon Flux, but my personal favorite was Sam Keith's The Maxx.If you've never seen it before, The Maxx is the adventures of a bum who believes he is a superhero and has dreams of being a warrior in the mythical land of Pangaea. I highly recommend it and the entire series is roughly two hours.
It still isn't available on DVD, but I just found out that you can check it out at MTV.com for free.
